Vipassana Meditation Centre, Pencoyd

Arbor Architects are working with the Vipassana Trust to deliver accommodation, dining and meditation facilities for the Dhamma Dipa and Dhamma Padhana centres, which provide short and long meditation courses respectively.

The client’s main divers for the project are to deliver healthy, low-energy buildings with good acoustic separation to facilitate silent meditation.

Acoustics have to be considered throughout the construction process, as well as during occupation and operation. To that end, Arbor Architects are working closely with the main contractor to explore off-site construction methods and streamline the construction process to limit disruption during the build.

The design team, which includes Greengauge Building Energy Consultants and O'Brien & Price, are also working closely together to ensure the new buildings have exemplary levels of thermal performance and airtightness. This will enable heating and power to be generated on-site via renewable sources.
